This interdisciplinary research project with colleagues from the Faculty of Theology at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) and the Institute for Computational Ancient Studies (CompAS) at Freie Universität Berlin aims to provide a comprehensive analysis, state-of-the-art digitalization (including multispectral imaging, X-ray fluorescence analysis, and optical 3D measurement technology) and virtual presentation of the oldest Latin manuscripts of the Vetus Latina and the Vulgate. The project is founded by the German Research Grant (DFG). The analyses involved will be: (1) paleographic and codicological, (2) philological and theological, (3) genealogical, and (4) liturgical. The two manuscripts will be examined in light of their wide-ranging cultural and historical context and published in the Münster digital manuscript room (NT.VMR). This research is expanded by comparisons with other important manuscripts by applying and extending the collation software LERA. As such, the project aligns itself methodologically with the field of manuscript studies and attempts to integrate the expertise of various disciplines in a digital space focusing on a limited subject of investigation.
